Disability Inclusion

Equal access to university life is a vital part of every student experience. We welcome people with disabilities, long term health conditions, and specific learning difficulties, and are committed to providing students with positive support in all aspects of University life.

Our work with students

We are here to help students make the most of their support at Edinburgh Napier.

Students with a disability or health condition for which they require support are strongly encouraged to speak to a Disability Inclusion Adviser about their support needs at the earliest opportunity. We typically start approaching applicants late Spring each year ahead of September/October entry and in December ahead of January entry.

Our ambition as a University is to become as inclusive as possible. That will mean that, as much as we can, we look to make sure support is available without needing to apply for additional funding.

As a first step while students settle into their new course and as we get to know them, we will normally look to match whatever support they have had at school or college.

A key step in putting support in place will be to work with the student to develop a learning profile – support plan – which we then share with module leaders.

We also recommend a wide range of additional software to support students in their studies and offer.  This includes ClaroRead, a screen reader and proof reading package, and Mind View, a mind-mapping package. Both are available via Apps Anywhere.

How to refer students to us

Please encourage students to approach us direct or make a referral on their behalf by emailing us at disabilityandinclusion@napier.ac.uk.

More information on making referrals to the Disability Inclusion team and other support services is available on the Personal Development Tutor Moodle course.

Students who have already begun working with the Disability Inclusion team can book appointments with their assigned advisor via MyFuture.
