MS Teams telephony

The University’s telephony is provided via MS Teams. MS Teams softphones are available for all staff members on request.

What is a softphone?
A softphone is a program which enables you to use your computer or mobile device and internet connection to make and receive telephone calls rather than using a telephone handset and line.

I don't have MS Teams Telephony, how do I get it?

You can request MS Teams Telephony using this form: MS Teams Telephony Request Form. You will be allocated a direct dial in number (DDI) in the format of 0131 455 ****.

How do I use MS Teams telephony?

Please use the MS Teams telephony guide to help you get started.
If you are in a call queue there is an additional guide available, MS Teams telephony guide – call queues
You can go to the Microsoft support website for more information.

I have a requirement that means I need a handset and not a softphone, how will this work?

MS Teams telephony, as well as being a softphone solution, can work with handsets. While a softphone will be the default provision we can arrange for a handset if there is a specific need.

I have access to a telephone handset – how does it work?

In some spaces, such as receptions and labs there will be telephone handsets. You can access the user guide for these here: Yealink MP52 handsets user guide. Remember, if the phone can dial externally, you do not need to prefix the number with a 9.

Some locations, such as receptions, have a handset with more functionality. You can access the user guide for these here: Yealink MP54 handsets user guide. Remember, if the phone can dial externally, you do not need to prefix the number with a 9.
