Claire Taylor - Director of Information Services

Claire Taylor​Claire joined the Edinburgh Napier University as Director of Information Services in July 2019. The portfolio of Information Services includes the design, implementation and maintenance of all infrastructure and digital systems, management and development of Library Services and the University’s cyber security and systems resilience.  Claire has responsibility for ensuring that Information Services have the capacity and capability to manage this portfolio and can meet emerging needs and trends.  She leads the development and refresh of the overall Digital Strategy. 


Claire graduated from University of Dundee in 1989 with a BA Hons in Business Administration, then joined the Royal Bank of Scotland as a Graduate Trainee before moving into business analysis and information technology.  She has worked as a consultant and solutions architect, with experience in a variety of sectors including retail, banking and justice.  Her most recent role was Digital Services Director at Scottish Courts and Tribunal Service. She is a TOGAF certified Enterprise Architect and is ITIL qualified.


​​Claire represents IS at the University’s Senior Leadership Team, the Risk & Resilience Committee, the Learning, Teaching, Assessment and Student Experience Committee and the Academic Board.



Malcolm Jones - Head of Library Services

 

Malcolm JonesMalcolm is the Head of Library Services which includes responsibility for our subject librarians and our Resource Acquisitions Team.  As such, his remit includes the effective identification, acquisition and exploitation of the information requirements of academic staff, researchers and students, together with the provision of a range of information services to ensure their maximum use and benefit.  Part of this centres around the provision of information and digital skills capacity building for all our customers.  He also leads the development of our research support services, and is our Research Repository Manager.

 

He graduated from Southampton University in 1977 with a BA Hons in English Literature.  During his employment at the British Library Document Supply Centre, he undertook a PG​ Diploma in Information Studies, and then joined Nene College (now University of Northampton) as a Serials Librarian in 1984, becoming Reader Services Librarian a few years later. Malcolm joined the University in 1990, initially with responsibility for Sighthill Library together with the provision of subject information support services for the business and management subject areas.

 

Malcolm represents Information Services on a range of senior University Committees, including: the Learning, Teaching and Assessment Committee; the Research and Innovation Committee; the Student Experience Committee; the Research Integrity Committee and the University Quality and Standards Committee.  He has also worked on a variety of steering groups such as ELIR, Digital Futures and various Quality Assurance Themes.


 

Iain Russell - Head of Infrastructure & Operations

 

Iain RussellIain joined the University in August 1996 initially within the School of Computing as Departmental Superintendent before moving to the Computing Services Unit, as it was known then, in February 1999 as Network Systems Manager. Through two reorganisational changes Iain held the post of Depute Director (Infrastructure) and now his current role of Head of Infrastructure & Operations within Information Services.

 

The Infrastructure Systems Group brings together Client Services, Datacentre and Operations and the Network Services and Security teams. These teams manage a range of services and underpinning infrastructure critical for supporting education, research and associated administration within the University. These services include networks, including wireless, and telecommunications, data centres, server system platforms, identity and access management, physical and virtual hosting infrastructure, IT security, staff and student desktop, application provision, printing including MFDs and data storage. 
 
Prior to this Iain worked for an Edinburgh computer reseller for fifteen years and worked his way up from being a PC technician to Service Manager then on to Business Operations Manager.
