RMS Frequently Asked Questions for Students

General

Q. Why do I need to use Worktribe?

A: Worktribe is the University’s end-to-end research information management system. It feeds into the staff and research student profiles which appear on our external web pages and allows us to efficiently manage all aspects of our research activity, from project management to output repository. For research students, it offers the opportunity to start building an externally visible research profile which will include information on any projects or outputs you have been involved with and can provide a showcase for your activities, events and news stories. If you require ethical approval for your research, you will need to access Worktribe to enable you to work on your ethics application, in conjunction with your supervisor.

Q: How do I gain access to Worktribe?

A: For new research students, it can take up to three months for your Worktribe record to be created. Once this has happened, log-in details will be sent to your Director of Studies. You will need to be on the University network to access Worktribe if you are working off-campus. Information on setting up the Virtual Desktop Service can be found here.

To Log-in to Worktribe you will need your 8 digit associate staff ID number starting 40****** and the password associated with that. If you forget your password, contact ISServicedesk@napier.ac.uk for assistance in resetting it.

Q: How do I create a Worktribe Profile?

  • Upload a professional profile photo. There are regular opportunities to have your picture taken by our inhouse photographers, contact them at photography@napier.ac.uk to find out when they will next visit your campus
  • Complete as many of the fields in the Details tab as you can, particularly biography, which will appear on your external web page, and your research interests and social media details. Select your School from the drop-down list in the field Org Unit.
  • The Qualifications tab should be pre-populated with your qualification. If there is no description of your research, you can add one by clicking on the pencil icon.
  • Click on your qualification to reveal details of your supervisory team. If this information is not correct, DO NOT MAKE CHANGES, contact your Director of Studies who will complete the necessary RD form to have the changes made.
  • Start to build your online profile by adding News and Events via the blue Marketing tab. If you are organising activities such as seminars/talks, exhibitions, visiting speakers, conferences, performances or public/community engagement activity within ENU, add these as Events. Further information on creating Events and promoting your activity through News items, can be found here.

Q: How do I submit a request for ethical approval for my research?

A: All research related ethics applications are submitted through Worktribe. Visit the Research Integrity web page and familiarise yourself with the University’s Code of Practice on Research Integrity. Check with your Director of Studies and School Research Integrity Lead to see if you need to make an application for ethical approval. Online application instructions can be found here. You will be able to work on the application with your supervisor, but only your supervisor will be able to do the final submission of the application to the relevant committee.

Q: Where can I get help?

A: Visit the Worktribe Training and Support page which contains details of training sessions and materials, or send your queries to RMSadmin@napier.ac.uk. Please note, it can take 24 hours for changes you make in Worktribe to appear on the University staff directory. Profiles are available in real time on the University repository
