Title
SAS public engagement project

Description

Staff from the School of Applied Sciences have been working with Broomhouse, Sighthill and Parkhead residents on a participatory research project aimed at strengthening the University's ties with local communities.

On Monday 3 June, Dr Kathy Velander, Dr Kate Botterill and Dawn Smith ran an Open Space research workshop in Broomhouse, co-ordinated through the Joining the Dots initiative.

The event brought together key stakeholders from across the area by using focus groups and visual methods, including cartooning, to capture community views on key issues such as transport, public health and community safety.

A second participatory workshop took place on Friday 11 August at the Broomhouse Street Party, with support from students, Marta Michalska and Silvia Labruzzo. The group extended consultation with local residents through prioritisation activities culminating in a list of actions for community development.

The findings from the research will form part of the City Council’s locality planning and will be used by the NHS and community groups to consider priorities for developing new activity in the area. The local MP and councillors have also expressed an interest in the research.
