Title
Edinburgh Skeptics Event - 6 November

Description
Join the Edinburgh Skeptics Society this Wednesday for their event: “I’m not going to leave someone to die”: A policing response to Scotland’s drugs death crisis. - Dr Peter Hillen & Prof. Inga Heyman.

Scotland has infamously been called “Europe’s drug deaths capital”. Police are often first responders to drug overdoses, however, they have been accused of criminalising and stigmatising people who use drugs. Since 2022, all officers in Scotland have been carrying naloxone, a drug that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose. In this event, Dr Peter Hillen and Professor Inga Heyman will explore the policing response to this initiative and consider how we can all respond to Scotland’s drug deaths problem.

Dr. Peter Hillen is a lecturer in the School of Health and Social Care at Edinburgh Napier, teaching on the Nursing programmes and MSW Social Work. He specialises in teaching on substance use (drugs and alcohol) and is a trainer for the Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression. He also supervises students on the MBA (Health Management) programme.

Prof. Inga Heyman is an Associate Professor (Policing and Public Health), Honorary member of the Faculty of Public Health, Fellow of the Global Law Enforcement and Public Health Association and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

The event takes place at The Banshee Labyrinth in Edinburgh on Wednesday 6 November from 7.30-9pm. Find out more and register for free.
