Dr Domenico Lombardi was invited to present key findings arising from his offshore wind turbine research to the Offshore Engineering Society in Aberdeen yesterday (9 April 2014). Domenico was recently appointed to a lectureship in geotechnical engineering in the School of Engineering and the Built Environment and is a member of the Centre for Geotechnics Research in the Institute for Sustainable Construction.
Offshore wind turbines, considered to be an important component of future energy infrastructure, must withstand considerable and repeated loading from both wind and waves. Domenico's work has been instrumental in revealing the long term performance of the submarine foundations on which these turbines are fixed. His talk will concentrate on the laboratory scale modelling, being undertaken in the University's geotechnics laboratory.
