​Malcolm Innes, Reader in Design from the School of Arts & Creative Industries, is this week in Sao Paulo, Brazil to speak at an international conference of lighting designers. After speaking at the premier international lighting design convention PLDC in Rome in 2015, Malcolm was invited to by the organisers of the LEDforum Conference to present an undated version of his paper, “Digital Light for Analogue Museums”.

Malcolm's paper will include discussion of innovative research into museum and gallery lighting being undertaken at Edinburgh Napier University, including the dramatic virtual restoration of a carved stone effigy at Elgin Cathedral and the ongoing collaborative research work with the Centre for Textile Conservation at the University of Glasgow to investigate the mechanisms for how exhibition lighting fades sensitive dyes in museum artefacts.
