Title
University Secretary retires & Interim Dean for Business School

Full Story

DR Gerry Webber, the University Secretary for the last 20 years, will be retiring at the end of 2017, it has been announced.

Gerry joined Edinburgh Napier University in 1997 as Director of Strategic Planning and was appointed Secretary in 1999 with responsibility for many different service areas.

Professor Andrea Nolan said: “Gerry has been a core member of the university executive leadership over a sustained period of time, and his leadership and contributions have been critical to the university's growth and success.

“I shall miss Gerry in very many ways and I am truly grateful for and appreciative of his guidance, support and wisdom during my tenure as Principal.

“There will be a formal farewell for Gerry at the end of the year, but in the meantime it will be ‘business as usual’ during his last semester with the University.”

In other events, after 18 months helming the Business School Professor James O’Kane has decided to leave the organisation to take some time out to spend with his family.

Professor Alyson Tobin took over as interim Dean this week while the University recruits for the permanent role.

Professor Alistair Sambell said: “I would like to thank James for his contribution to the University during his time with us. He has been a pleasure to work with.

“Alyson has fantastic leadership experience in Higher Education, including the roles of Deputy Vice Chancellor at York St John University and acting Vice Principal and Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of St Andrews.

“We have arranged an all School meeting for the morning of Friday 1st September, from 10 to 11am at Lindsay Stewart Lecture Theatre, as an opportunity to discuss the School’s priorities for the coming year, and this will also provide a chance to meet Alyson.”
