Find a book
Enter a word or two from the title and the author surname.
If you have a lot of results, you can choose Tweak my results > Format > Books, to show only books.
You'll see availability information directly under physical books. e.g. Shelfmark, number of copies.
For e-books, you’ll see a link to Online Access instead.
Can't find a book?
- If it is out on loan, place a request to have it held for you next.
- If it is not in the Library, see Other Libraries or contact your Librarian if you would like to suggest it for purchase.
There are self service machines in many libraries, which allow you to check out the books yourself. These are easy to use, simply follow the directions on the screen. Otherwise, take your books and ID Card to the Library desk.
Most books can be borrowed for seven days, and books for wider reading for 28 days. Books in seven day loan periods will have this marked on the spine. They will automatically be renewed up to a maximum of 4 months unless recalled. If an item on loan to you is requested by another user we will recall it by sending you an email asking you to return it within 7 days.
You are responsible for all items issued on your ID Card and must not give them to other people or lend your ID Card to others.
You can return items to any Library, but we prefer them to be returned to the Library from which you borrowed them. You do not need your ID Card when returning items, but make sure you use a self service machine or ensure items are returned by staff.
Outside opening hours you can leave items in the return boxes.
If you return items by post they remain your responsibility until they are discharged from your account. If you have difficulty renewing or returning items please contact a Campus Library as soon as possible.
If you return an item late, we will ask you to pay a fine and you will be unable to borrow anything else until it has been returned or renewed and any fines paid. See Library Charges/fines. If you have been absent from university due to illness or other extenuating circumstances which have prevented you from returning or renewing loans it may be possible for some or all of the fines to be waived. Please complete a fine appeal form and submit it along with the supporting evidence.
If you don’t return an item after a number of reminders, we will assume that the item is lost and send you a Lost Item Bill. If you are unable to find the item you can either pay the replacement cost shown in the invoice or provide an acceptable replacement copy.
