The Moodle service is now live with modules running trimester 3, and all modules will use Moodle from session 2012-13. WebCT module and programme sites are currently being migrated to Moodle, and work is underway to provide staff with access as soon as possible. The Moodle Project FAQs detail the WebCT resources and activities that are being migrated to Moodle, together with a screencast showing an example migrated module. Note that a second migration exercise will occur after trimester two teaching finishes, and that Moodle and WebCT will run in parallel during trimester 3.
A Moodle Training server is available for all staff to create courses for experimenting with the new system. You can use the training server to create development courses and invite your colleagues to edit or view them. You can also find the latest project information, and an ever increasing set of support resources. Alternatively you can access a quick view of a Moodle course which shows a basic layout and the editing options.
Each faculty now has a resident Learning Technologist to support staff with the transition to Moodle:
· FECCI - Ruth Johnstone, Merchiston C74, x2409
· FHLSS - Anne Jamie, Sighthill 2.B.19, x2465
· The Business School - John Davies, Craiglockhart 1/53, x4347
Ruth, Anne and John have been meeting with a number of staff in their faculties and have been made to feel very welcome! They are establishing a range of staff development events and are encouraging all staff in their faculty to get in touch. If you would like a Moodle session for a module team, or would like to talk through how the transition to Moodle will affect your module, then Ruth, Anne and John will be delighted to hear from you. Additional staff development opportunities for Moodle are available from the professional development programme.
