Why focus on Graduate Attributes?

Graduate Attributes are already a recognised strength in Edinburgh Napier provision. They are at the heart of us delivering the university strategy and providing students with the experience they need and want to succeed after graduation. This is not new activity but it is the first time we have captured it specifically for students and this move reflects the growing importance placed on graduate attributes in the workplace and other contexts.

Although not new activity, students require systematic help to better identify and articulate what Graduate Attributes (GAs) they have developed as part of their programme and other related activity because:

• The competition for graduate level jobs is growing and Edinburgh Napier students need to be able to “Stand Out from the Crowd”;
• Employers are increasingly looking for a conscious understanding of GAs in those they recruit;
• Professional Bodies are increasingly incorporating GAs into their definitions of professionalism.
