As part
of the School of Arts and Creative Industries Career Week, here’s your chance
to hear first-hand from our Chancellor and internationally-acclaimed photographer,
director and curator about his extraordinary career.
Aged 28, David decided to return to full time
education as a mature student at Edinburgh Napier University. He graduated
three years later with a BA Distinction in Photographic Studies. David
was primarily based in London and a masthead contributor at GQ, Vogue and
Tatler. He also worked for most other London based magazines and a list of
international advertising clients. In 2001 he based himself in New York and,
over the following 15 years, was fortunate to work, collaborate and be inspired
by some of the most creative minds and environments.
David was honoured with a Honorary Doctor of Arts
for his contribution to photography from Edinburgh Napier. In 2012,
Panasonic based their national Lumix TV and print campaign around his work
and he starred in their cinema and TV commercials. David was also the
first photographic artist to host a solo exhibition at The Glasgow Art
Club.
In 2015, David became Chancellor of Edinburgh
Napier. In 2016 David launched The Chancellor Talk Series where he
brings some of the greatest minds to the University. David serves on the
Scottish Government’s Creative Industries Advisory Group and enjoys being
a member of The John Byrne Awards judging panel.
David
will also take questions from the audience, so this is a great opportunity for
you to gain a real insight into his life and how he got to where he is today.
