Student engagement reporting
Student
engagement reporting has been developed to support student engagement and
wellbeing and help the University to identify more easily any students who may
be struggling, for whatever reason, with their studies so we can offer support.
The
student engagement report looks at whether students have used various systems,
including Student Check In, Moodle, library loans and Resource Booker. If a student hasn’t used
any of them for a period of two weeks or more, they will appear on the PDT’s
report which will be emailed to them automatically each Monday. The PDT should
then contact the student to check they are OK and see if there is anything we
can do to help.
It is
recognised that engaging with systems doesn’t fully show if a student is
engaging with their studies but is a helpful tool and can indicate if a student
is starting to experience challenges. The report is extremely helpful to the
University from a wellbeing and safeguarding perspective and helps us to
deliver on our duty of care to our students.
The
report is easy to access and pulls together usage information from multiple
systems into one place to allow us to pick up on potential issues in a quick
and consistent way.
Visa
students will appear on the report but will be highlighted in orange. You do
not need to contact these students as International Operations and Student
Recruitment will do so. These records appear on the report for information and
to inform discussions with that student if they are in contact for another
reason.
By
default, the report looks at undergraduate on campus students, but you can
widen the student group being looked at by amending the selection criteria.
If you
are a PDT you can access the report here
at any time.
You’ll
find the ‘Student Engagement Reporting – Non-Engagement Report Guide’ here,
which includes template email text for contacting non-engaging students.
You can also look at detailed check in data at a module and student level. You’ll find the ‘Student Engagement Reporting – Attendance Report Guide’ here.
You’ll find more information about student
engagement reporting on My Napier.
Use the slide available here to introduce
student engagement reporting to students at the start of trimester.
