ENroute, Edinburgh Napier’s Professional Recognition Framework for staff involved in teaching and supporting learning, has been developed to support you in your journey towards Fellowship. It offers a choice of routes to help you develop and reflect on your practice and to make your claim for recognition.

If you are interested in engaging with ENroute to apply for Fellowship, please start by reading the ENroute Handbook and then enrol on our ENroute Moodle site. Information about key dates for the Mentoring Circle cycles can be found there. When you would like to start the process of working towards your application please fill out the Expression of Interest form, which you can find on the Moodle site.

This handbook aims to explain the choices available through ENroute and to guide you through the process. There is further support in place, including the ENroute Information and Guidance for Participants Moodle Site (registration required) and, most importantly, a University-wide community of experienced and enthusiastic colleagues to help you along the way.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

ENroute School and Professional Services representatives act as a link between their School or Service and the ENroute Team to inform their colleagues about ENroute opportunities and to provide advice on gaining HEA fellowship.

1. What is ENro​ute?

ENroute is Edinburgh Napier​ University’s professional recognition framework that has been accredited by the Advance HE (Formerly the Higher Education Academy, HEA). This is the framework through which staff can gain Advance HE Fellowship in recognition of their achievements in teaching and supporting learning.   

2. What are the benef​its of gaining Fellowship?

There are several benefits to gaining Fellowship, these include:   

  • formal recognition for your work in teaching and supporting students   

  • benchmarking of your practice against sector expectations and standards   

  • the opportunity to discuss, develop and reflect on your practice   

  • achievement of a portable asset which is increasingly recognised by higher and further education institutions around the UK and beyond   

  • entitlement to use post-nominal letters (AFHEA, FHEA, SFHEA, PFHEA)   

  • invitation to join Edinburgh Napier’s lively and supportive community of Teaching Fellows   

  • achievement of an expectation for academic career progression within Edinburgh Napier.   

3. How are participants suppor​ted in the ENroute process?

The primary means by which you are supported during the process of preparing your claim for Fellowship are Mentoring Circles, Workshops and access to a range of material available on Moodle.   

4. What are the significant da​tes ahead?

5. Is there a co​st involved?

There will be no cost involved in applying for fellowship as the University is investing in the framework to enable us to manage the process internally. 
  

6. Can Professional Services​ staff involved in teaching and supporting learning gain HEA fellowships?

Absolutely - a number of Professional Services staff already hold Fellowship. All staff interested in gaining Fellowship will be supported through the process.
