Supporting Disabled Students in their learner journey
We all contribute to making sure our students have the best possible student experience. The University takes forward a mainstreaming approach to supporting disabled students, which means a number of reasonable adjustments are in place for all students. These are: - providing class material in advance
- enabling class recordings
- adjusting the time allowed for class test, and
- online open book tests.
There are times when students have additional needs. The Disability Inclusion Team provides dedicated and professional support to disabled students. The Team plays a key role in making sure that we are aware when some students have additional requirements by creating a Learning Profile.
Learning Profiles
Learning profiles ensure students are able to access all parts of their learning experience; this includes outlining exam adjustments.
The Disability Inclusion Team works with individual students to create a learning profile that outlines important information about support requirements. These learning profiles reflect the agreed needs of the student and should be accessed by Programme and Module leaders, Personal Development Tutors and School Disability Contacts. This is to ensure that the University’s legal obligations are met, and the agreed adjustments are implemented effectively.
The learning profiles also provide necessary information to make sure exam and assessment adjustments are in place for those students that need them.
e:Vision
e:Vision is the University’s portal where learning profiles are located. e:Vision is a streamlined, GDPR-compliant portal based on the University’s Student Record System ‘SITS’. By using the SITS security roles and data, e:Vision reduces errors and delays, improving the student experience by automatically granting access to appropriate colleagues.
Once a learning profile is created by a Disability Advisor and agreed by the student, key school contacts are able to see and implement the necessary adjustments relevant to their students.
All Programme, Module Leaders and Personal Development Tutors can see on e:Vision learning profiles relevant to their students. Programme and Module Leaders are encouraged to check e:Vision monthly to pick-up any new or amended learning profiles.
