Title
Periscope transfers to Craiglockhart

Summary
Poetry ‘jukebox’ contains 30 poems by European writers

Full Story
An eye-catching Poetry Periscope has been set up at the entrance to the War Poets corridor at the Craiglockhart campus.

The bright yellow steel structure has for the last three weeks been bringing the work of leading European writers to Merchiston.

Now the ‘jukebox’ of verse, containing 30 poems by 30 writers, both in their original language and in translation, has moved across the city to Craiglockhart - scene of the first meeting of war poets Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon 100 years ago.

It will remain at Craiglockhart for the next fortnight, giving passers-by the option of pressing once for a random poem to entertain them as they walk past, or staying longer to enjoy a whole curated selection.

Originally developed in the Czech Republic, the Periscope includes the work of poetry grandees like Titos Patrikios (Greece) and Friederike Mayrocker (Austria) as well as that of up and coming writers.

It has been installed courtesy of the Edinburgh City of Literature Trust, which is arranging for it to be placed at a series of key venues in the city.

The Periscope’s stay at Edinburgh Napier is being sponsored by the University’s Centre for Literature and Writing (CLAW).

Pictured with the Periscope is Sian Bevan from the City of Literature Trust.
