Title
Athena Swan Update

Summary
Gender Equality Survey now open!

Full Story

Last week we received the great news that the School of Computing and School of Engineering & the Built Environment have now been awarded Athena SWAN bronze, building on the institutional level bronze award. This recognises the hard work and progress the schools have made in inclusion and success for all, especially around gender representation.

The Business School and the School of Arts & Creative Industries have just submitted their applications. The University is also preparing to apply in November 2017 to maintain Bronze Award at Institutional Level.

What is Athena Swan?

For those staff that don’t know, the Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) Athena SWAN Charter was established in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment in higher education and research.

In May 2015 the charter was expanded to recognise work undertaken in arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law (AHSSBL), and in professional and support roles, and for trans staff and students. The charter now recognises work undertaken to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women.

Gender Equality Survey

The University’s Gender Equality Survey is now open. It would be great to get as many responses as possible so we can have a clear picture of the University. Staff in the Business School have recently completed the survey as part of the preparations for their school’s submission so do not need to fill this in again.
