Edinburgh Napier University will soon boast the most technologically advanced lecture theatre in Scotland after a significant gift from Dr Stephen Riady, a long-time supporter and honorary alumnus of the University. The money will be spent on fully upgrading the 400-seat lecture theatre that is already named after the renowned Singapore-based business leader and philanthropist.

Work is due to start at the University’s Craiglockhart campus immediately and the finished space will feature Scotland’s first Direct View LED display technology which will allow lecturers to fully engage and collaborate with both those in the lecture theatre and those participating remotely. The new immersive technology will also mean higher quality broadcast facilities for the live streaming of eminent professorial lectures and panel debates. All the seating in the room will also be upgraded alongside other AV improvements.

Dr Riady saidSince I first supported students to study at Edinburgh Napier University almost 30 years ago, I have recognised the sustained ambition of the University, its strong international outlook, and focus to create an enabling environment which supports talented young students and researchers. I supported the expansion of The Business School at Craiglockhart campus back in 2004, and today, I am delighted to support the planned refurbishment of the lecture theatre so that students and faculty can benefit from an immersive and state-of-the-art learning facility for years to come.”

Professor Andrea Nolan, Principal and Vice Chancellor of Edinburgh Napier, said“This is an exciting day for Edinburgh Napier University. This significant support from Dr Stephen Riady will not only benefit students here in Edinburgh, but also those studying with us abroad, helping them to feel more connected to their university. I would like to thank Dr Riady for this generous gift. It has been a pleasure hosting him and his family here in Edinburgh this week.”

The refurbishment of the Dr Stephen Riady Lecture Theatre is the first of several developments planned for Edinburgh Napier’s Craiglockhart campus, including a cutting-edge trading roomThe Trading Room will contain a 12-seater suite of trading stations hosting the Bloomberg Professional service, a software platform that provides trusted real-time and historical data, market moving news and analytics to help business and financial professionals make better informed investment decisions. It will serve as a resource for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
