The Metro and a shopping list are just two of the items discovered in an overflowing
confidential waste bin recently.
Make sure
you’re using confidential console bins for confidential waste only, and not for
other paper that contains no personal information.
The cost
to the University in emptying the confidential waste consoles is substantially
more than the cost of emptying the general paper recycling bins. Filling the
consoles with general recycling leaves less room for waste which really is
confidential and over-full consoles could result in a data breach and
potentially the University being fined (fines are now up to £17 million), as
well as reputational damage.
Paper and
card recycling bins are available throughout the University and should be used
for any paper or card with contains no personal information. Locations of all
consoles are listed on the Environmental
Sustainability intranet page.
If you’re
having a clear out of paperwork, mobile consoles can be requested from the
Facilities Helpdesk on extension 5000.
If you
have any queries or require advice or assistance, contact Elaine Clark, Governance Services.
