The climate crisis is one of the biggest challenges we face today. It impacts not only our own students, colleagues and wider Edinburgh Napier community, but those in other communities in our city, our country and around the world. We all have something at stake, and we all have a part to play.
Our University Strategy, Driving Distinctiveness, sets out how we will enhance and strengthen our impact and play our part in the recovery, success and sustainability of Scotland and beyond. The objectives within the strategy are underpinned by a commitment to sustainability, and it is this commitment that will drive our actions and initiatives over the coming years.
Earth Day 2024 is 'Planet VS Plastics' and we're being asked to do three things:
- Support the Global Plastics Treaty
- Reject Fast Fashion
- Join the Great Global Cleanup
Did you know that Edinburgh Napier colleagues are leading the charge against single-use plastics in labs by coming up with innovative new ways to tackle waste and encourage recycling? Colleagues are rethinking recycling by finding better ways to deal with lab plastics, including setting up decontamination processes so that more single-use plastics can be safely recycled. You can find out more here.
All of us are accountable for sustainability, from leadership within spaces with significant environmental impact such as laboratories to personal impact such as waste management and the day-to-day commute. We must continue to identify areas where we can make a difference, take responsibility and work collaboratively with those around us.
To celebrate Earth Day, we've partnered with Home Energy Scotland to help you to reduce your carbon footprint and lower your energy bills. Join the webinar at 11.30am on Monday 22 April for:
