External Examiners at Edinburgh Napier University
THESE PAGES ARE CURRENTLY UNDER DEVELOPMENT
"In the UK's system of higher education, institutions are responsible for the quality of the education they provide and, in the case of institutions with degree awarding powers, they are responsible for the academic standards of the awards they offer. External examining provides one of the principal means for maintaining UK threshold academic standards within autonomous higher education institutions. External examining is therefore an integral and essential part of institutional quality assurance"
QAA (2011) Chapter B7: UK Quality Code
Academic Quality is responsible for overseeing the appointment and induction of new external examiners, and for coordinating the administration relating the processing of annual reports and fee payments.
In these pages staff will find further information on the criteria that should be applied in selecting and nominating new external examiners. Support is also available to assist programme or module teams to advertise for vacant external examiner posts.
Existing external examiners will also find information to support them in undertaking their role at Edinburgh Napier University.
