Title
It’s LGBT History Month!

Summary
Celebrating the achievements, contributions and diversity of the LGBT community – while supporting LGBT+ people to live authentically.

Full Story

LGBT History Month is a month-long annual celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history, and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements.

The Month is intended as a means to raise awareness of, and combat prejudice against the LGBT community while celebrating its achievement and diversity and making it more visible. It provides role models, builds community, and represents a civil rights statement about the contributions of the LGBT community.

In the UK, LGBT History Month is observed during February, to coincide with the abolition of Section 28 in 2003.

This year’s theme is peace, reconciliation and activism, with activities taking place across schools, communities, youth groups and workplaces, all with a focus on supporting LGBT+ people to live authentically.

You’ll find details of events happening across Scotland to celebrate LGBT History Month here.

The University’s LGBT+ staff network enables LGBT+ colleagues to come together to share information, learn together, socialise and support each other all year round. By signalling a LGBT+ presence on campus, we can ensure we maintain a comfortable and fully inclusive environment in which everyone can each reach their full potential without fear of discrimination. In the spirit of true inclusivity the network is also open to all staff who are supporters of LGBT+ and equality issues.
