Course Overview:

Personal Development Tutors (PDTs) are the first point of contact for our students for academic support, and signpost to other sources of support within the School, University or ENSA, including specialist student support services. They play a vital role in welcoming students to Edinburgh Napier University and in helping them feel they belong to our community and that someone cares about them.

There are many resources available to PDTs to help them in their roles, and lots of support available to students, but it’s not always easy to keep track and to know where to turn.

To help PDTs navigate the role and learn more about the support available to them and to their students, the PDT Forum and colleagues in Wellbeing & Inclusion are running a PDT training session online on 9 October from 3pm until 4.30pm.

The session is designed for colleagues new to personal development tutoring at Edinburgh Napier, but is open to all PDTs. The session will be co-delivered by colleagues from DLTE, Keep on Track, Counselling and Safeguarding with School PDT Leads.

The course covers essential information about the PDT role including student engagement reporting and the numerous resources available to help, reassure and support PDTs, including the University’s new PDT Framework and Student Support Quick Guides. The session also introduces PDTs to key contacts in the PDT Forum and in Wellbeing & Inclusion, providing an overview of the services provided across that department.

Objectives:

• Communicate fundamental information about Personal Development Tutoring at Edinburgh Napier
• Highlight lots of available resources
• Reassure and encourage PDTs
• Make this feel like a positive and enjoyable role

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the session, participants will be familiar with:
• The approach to personal development tutoring at Edinburgh Napier
• Expectations and boundaries
• Sources of support and guidance
• How to respond to some common student issues During the course, participants will meet key contacts in the PDT Forum and in Wellbeing & Inclusion, providing an overview of the services provided across that department.
