Edinburgh Napier’s Business School welcomed marketing industry professionals and students, alongside our Marketing academics, for an afternoon of speed networking this week.
From an original idea by the Student Marketing Society, the event was organised by lecturer Simone Kurtzke in partnership with Sharon Homan-James and Emma Hill from the Student Futures team. The aim was to provide a platform for Marketing students to showcase their talents to professionals while positioning the School’s Marketing Group as a key industry partner.
The busy event saw students given two minutes to pitch to each professional, before receiving traffic light feedback and moving on, supporting students in developing core self-promotion skills and practise ‘selling themselves’ in a professional context. Also on offer was a practical Personal Branding workshop where students learned how to optimise their digital profiles to increase their chances of attracting potential employers.
Eilidh Muir, Student Marketing Society president, added, “This has been our most successful to date. I’m really grateful for the help from the Marketing Group and Student Futures to make our speed networking idea come alive. We’ve already had lots of positive feedback from students and I hope we can do more events like this in the future.”
