Title
Changes to parking charges from Monday 27 May 2024

Summary
Remember to download and use RingGo to pay for parking from 27 May.

Full Story

Over the last few years, we were able to pause parking charges for colleagues and students across our campuses, as we adjusted to returning to campus following the pandemic. The University is, however, bound by a legal obligation set out within planning permission to charge for parking. Parking charges will therefore be reintroduced from 27 May 2024.

We have partnered with RingGo to allow colleagues to pay an affordable cost to park on campus per day, week or month. This means that parking will be cheaper than pre-pandemic and charges will be variable, depending on Grade. Please note that a parking permit is still required.

From Monday 27 May 2024, the following charges will be in place.

What do I need to do?

Know your RingGo code:
Current permit holders should have received an email from the Car Parking team, verifying their RingGo code which will be used to input into the RingGo app when paying for parking. Please contact Car Parking if you have a valid permit but have not received a code.

Download the RingGo app:
Please ensure you have the RingGo app downloaded and your account created before Monday 27 May. Find out more about how RingGo works here.

Ensure you have paid when you park:
When arriving on campus, please open the RingGo app and insert the RingGo code sent to you by the Car Parking team. You can then choose to park for a day, week or month. If you don't have a smartphone available for use, please contact RingGo via telephone (020 3046 0010). Should access to a telephone be required, campus telephones can be found in the foyer of each campus.

It's important to remember when your parking will expire and when you should renew your session. Keep an eye out for the texts from RingGo as they let you know when your session is going to expire.

Car sharing:
If you are car sharing, you should follow the same advice as above, depending on the type of permit you have been allocated.

Blue Badge parking:
No charge still applies to accessing Blue Badge spaces and permits are not required to be issued however blue badges will continue to be shown.

Motorbike parking:
Motorbike owners will not require a permit to park on Campus and will not be charged, providing they are parked in a motorbike area.

Electric vehicle charging and parking:
Anyone can use the Electric Vehicle charging bays to charge their car, but all vehicles must be actively charging. All electric vehicles parked outwith a charging point require a valid permit and to pay for parking via RingGo.

Travelling sustainably:
Within our University Strategy we have committed to minimise our wider carbon footprint, and we encourage colleagues and students to think about how they get to and from campus.

You can find more information on the new parking charges in our FAQs and learn more about our Parking Policy on the intranet. We will continue to monitor our parking management processes on an ongoing basis and feedback should be sent to car.parking@napier.ac.uk.

If you don't think this information was relevant to you, or you know someone else who should've received the email, please let us know by emailing car.parking@napier.ac.uk.
