Library Skills for Students
There is a Subject Librarian available to support each School. Each Subject Librarian is is a specialist in your school’s subject area and many of our team are fellows of the Higher Education Academy.
What we offer
A Subject Librarian can join you within teaching hours and provide in-class sessions for students tailored to the needs of the course.
Key topics include:
- Finding academic information
- Research strategies
- Using databases effectively
- Understanding the importance of academic sources
- Referencing – Structuring your references and managing in-text citations.
Regular Introduction Sessions
We offer 'Getting started with using the Library' sessions at the start of trimester, aimed at new students, but open to all.
Getting started with using the Library
The university library is a vital resource to support students with their studies. If they have not studied at a university before or did a different degree elsewhere then they may not know what to expect from Edinburgh Napier University Library.
This workshop will help students gain a better understanding of how the library can support them, giving them the opportunity to meet Library staff and ask questions of us, and become more familiar with our spaces and services.
Welcome to the Physical Library - In person tours
We will have Library tours in each of our campus libraries, Merchiston, Craiglockhart and Sighthill.
In these tours we will take you around your campus library and tell you about:
- How to connect to Eduroam and use the University App.
- How to use the machines in the libraries like our printer/scanners, self-service checkouts and laptop loan safes.
- How to search for and find books.
- Our group study rooms and how to book them, collaborative desks, and relaxation areas.
