New – Report a problem on LibrarySearch
So that we can improve LibrarySearch, we’ve added a new one-click option to report problems with Library resources.
If you’re having a problem accessing resources using LibrarySearch, simply click on the wrench icon next to the item, add your email and any details – and the issue will be sent to us along with all the book/ebook/article/database identifying information.
RFID project and Library self-service
Information Services are pleased to announce that over the Christmas break we have implemented RFID (radio-frequency identification) in Craiglockhart Library, Merchiston Library and Sighthill Learning Resource Centre.
As part of this project, we have installed new self-service kiosks and added tags to every book in our main collections at this time.
The RFID implementation project is part of our Strategy 2020 objectives to improving the student experience, streamlining self-service, improving the security of library stock and supporting 24/7 access. It will also allow us to improve monitoring and discoverability of our collections in the future.
Benefits for you and your students include:
- Super-fast borrowing - add a pile of books at once, with no need to scan individual barcodes.
- Contactless card recognition.
- Borrowing receipts emailed to your University email address - no more losing bits of paper!
You'll see the new self-service kiosks in all libraries. If you want to borrow a book from the library, simply take your University ID card and book to the machine. Follow the instructions on the screen, or come to any of our helpdesks if you need help.
If you have any comments or feedback, please email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Group Study Room Bookings - Book and Check Availability online!
Information Services are delighted to announce that the new online Group Study Room Booking system for students is now available at the Sighthill Campus.
The system, which has been implemented in response to student feedback, was initially piloted at Craiglockhart and is now being rolled out to the other campuses.
The new system will enable students to book and check availability of the Library Student Group Study Rooms online.
For further information please visit myNapier.
Please note: Group Study Rooms are solely for the use of students.
New web filter – Log in on campus to access library eresources
The new web filtering service will change how Library eresources can be accessed on campus.
If you use Google or bookmarks to find ejournal articles, ebooks, databases etc you will no longer automatically be recognised as belonging to Edinburgh Napier University and given access.
The easiest way to find all the resources that you have access to is to start at LibrarySearch, which is set up to provide seamless on-campus access to the vast majority of our subscribed eresources.
To see everything available in LibrarySearch, you will now need to log into LibrarySearch on campus as well as off.
• Go to LibrarySearch.
• To log in, click Not signed in > Sign in > University member.
If you prefer to use bookmarks or Google
You will need to log into the individual eresources using the UK Federation/Shibboleth/institutional login link.
This is different for each journal or database, but usually means looking for a ‘Sign in/Log in’ button and then choosing to log in via Edinburgh Napier University.
