Digital Extracts Service
Guidelines for staff requesting materials
The Digital Extracts Service (DES) offers staff the opportunity to request digitisation of teaching materials for Reading Lists and Moodle. Digitised journal articles and book chapters will be available in an electronic format via Leganto and Moodle to named groups of students for set periods.
For more information about the digitisation scheme please see our Copyright Guidance LibGuide page on Digital copying for Moodle.
Submit your request
Digitisation Request Form
Please submit a separate form for each digitisation request.
When we receive your request, Library staff will find the most cost-effective way of providing the extract. If there are other ways of accessing the information, your Subject Librarian will discuss these with you before proceeding.
In some cases, copyright clearance has to be obtained directly from the publisher(s) before digitisation can proceed. Times to obtain clearance vary and may take up to six weeks, occasionally longer. Therefore it is crucial that requests are made well in advance of the actual requirement.
British Library Services currently affected by a cyber incident (updated 22 November 2023)
The British Library was subject to a cyber incident over the weekend of 28 and 29 October and most of their systems have been offline since then. This outage includes British Library document delivery and inter-library loans services.
As a result, there may be problems supplying digitised articles to Edinburgh Napier University.
Currently we have no further information about the likely duration of these issues.
