Throughout trimester one, Information Services have been working to refresh library study spaces for students.

Since September 2023 the following work has been completed:

Changes Across All Libraries:

  • Replacement of Zero Client devices with All-in-One PCs (over 250), for faster performance and improved usability.
  • Increased number of PCs with dual monitors (over 50), to support multitasking and productivity.
  • Installation of over 100 additional power cubes with USB, providing 400 charging points throughout the libraries.
  • International power adaptors are now available for students, to accommodate safe use of their devices.
  • Ergonomic user needs have been addressed with the installation of PC/Laptop risers.

 Craiglockhart Library Enhancements:

  • The rolling stacks have been replaced with 4 collaborative desks, with plasma screens and HDMI cables for the laptop connections, to support interactive learning.
  • In response to demand for varied study environments, two informal group study pods have been introduced near the windows, offering spaces for group discussions and meetings.

Merchiston Library Updates:

  • Group Study Pods have been adapted to BYOD practices, to accommodate the evolving preferences and needs of users.

Sighthill Library Improvements:

  • LRC5 East has been revamped into a social study space, for collaborative learning.
  • 5.E.06 has been transformed into a dedicated Library Training Room, with new All-in-One PCs. Available for booking via UniDesk.
