Library Study Space Refresh
March 2024
Throughout trimester one, Information Services have been working to refresh library study spaces for students.
Since September 2023 the following work has been completed:
Changes Across All Libraries:
- Replacement of Zero Client devices with All-in-One PCs (over 250), for faster performance and improved usability.
- Increased number of PCs with dual monitors (over 50), to support multitasking and productivity.
- Installation of over 100 additional power cubes with USB, providing 400 charging points throughout the libraries.
- International power adaptors are now available for students, to accommodate safe use of their devices.
- Ergonomic user needs have been addressed with the installation of PC/Laptop risers.
Craiglockhart Library Enhancements:
- The rolling stacks have been replaced with 4 collaborative desks, with plasma screens and HDMI cables for the laptop connections, to support interactive learning.
- In response to demand for varied study environments, two informal group study pods have been introduced near the windows, offering spaces for group discussions and meetings.
Merchiston Library Updates:
- Group Study Pods have been adapted to BYOD practices, to accommodate the evolving preferences and needs of users.
Sighthill Library Improvements:- LRC5 East has been revamped into a social study space, for collaborative learning.
- 5.E.06 has been transformed into a dedicated Library Training Room, with new All-in-One PCs. Available for booking via UniDesk.
