Can't find a book?

  • If it's out on loan, place a request.
  • If it's not in the Library, see Other Libraries or contact your Librarian if you would like to suggest it for purchase.

Borrowing

There are self service machines in many libraries, which allow you to check out the books yourself. These are easy to use, simply follow the directions on the screen. Otherwise, take your books and ID Card to the Library Help Desk.

Books will automatically renew up to a maximum of 4 months unless recalled. If an item on loan to you is requested by another user we will recall it by sending you an email asking you to return it within 7 days.

You are responsible for all items borrowed on your ID Card and must not give them to other people or lend your card to others.

Returning

You can return items to any campus Library. You don't need your ID Card to return items, but make sure you use a self service kiosk or ensure items are returned by staff.

If the Library is closed, you can leave items in the return boxes.

If you return items by post they remain your responsibility until they are discharged from your account. If you have difficulty renewing or returning items please contact a campus Library as soon as possible.

If you return an item late, we'll ask you to pay a fine and you won't be unable to borrow anything else until it has been returned or renewed and any fines paid. See Library Charges/fines. If you have been absent from university due to illness or other extenuating circumstances which have prevented you from returning or renewing loans it may be possible for some or all of the fines to be waived. Please complete a fine appeal form and submit it along with the supporting evidence.

If you don’t return an item after a number of reminders, we'll assume the item is lost and send you a Lost Item Bill. If you're unable to find the item you can either pay the replacement cost shown in the invoice or provide an acceptable replacement copy.
