Our Edinburgh Napier Business Engagement Team is here to help support all research and knowledge exchange (RKE) activity across our five Schools - we help transfer good ideas, research results and skills from the University to business and the wider community to enable innovative new products, services and processes to be developed.
Fiona Mason - Head of Business Engagement and IP Commercialisation
Fiona has a dual role leading on both the business engagement and IP commercialisation functions at Edinburgh Napier University.
She manages the Business Engagement team and is responsible for the development of the policy and strategies related to business and stakeholder engagement. Our relationships are at our heart and Fiona is keen to help build long-lasting partnerships.
Responsible for the management and commercialisation of the University’s intellectual property, Fiona leads on the Edinburgh Napier’s commercialisation strategy and process, supports the development and exploitation of all IP projects leading to license or spin-out and also helps with general IP enquiries. She is really interested in the commercial potential of innovations and their real-world application and is enthusiastic about transforming research into something impactful.

Georgina Gilmer – Head of CPD and Consultancy
Georgina is responsible for the strategic development and growth of continuing professional development (CPD) and consultancy.
Through supporting and inspiring academics to transfer their excellent research into tangible outputs, she ensures that they benefit business and the wider society. She engages with new and current external clients across all sectors to understand and support their needs.
Internally, she works with academics across all specialist areas and expertise and aligns their experience with the demands of external clients. She also works closely with the Business Development and Relationship Managers to support, where relevant, CPD and consultancy enquiries that arise within their subject areas. Building on a career in management consultancy, Georgina has worked extensively in higher education across research, knowledge exchange, innovation and business engagement.

Matthew Burdge – Business Development & Relationship Manager - SCEBE
Matt is Business Development and Relationship Manager for the School of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment (SCEBE).
Matt assists The School of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment colleagues to grow commercial networks, both nationally and internationally, for collaboration and provision of various Knowledge Exchange activities including CPD, consultancy, IP development, KTPs and many more. Overall, he is inspired by helping the University to engage with external organisations, grow our networks and share our knowledge.

Maggie Reid – Business Development & Relationship Manager - SAS & SHSC
Maggie is responsible for supporting the growth of the business engagement pipeline, stakeholder management and knowledge exchange income for the School of Applied Sciences (SAS) and the School of Health and Social Care (SHSC).
This includes developing external partnerships for research collaborations, CPD courses, consultancy projects and commercialisation opportunities. She is keen to support impactful partnerships that deliver outstanding results for the university and society more widely.

This includes developing external partnerships for research collaborations, CPD courses, consultancy projects and commercialisation opportunities. She is keen to support impactful partnerships that contribute to the economic development and to the society.
