Fiona specialises in technology transfer and knowledge exchange. She is skilled in IP management and exploitation, relationship building and supporting the conversion of academic research into tangible and impactful commercial opportunities. Fiona has over 20 years’ experience working with industry, developing key strategic business relationships, stakeholder collaboration and leading organisational change. Fiona leads the Business Engagement and IP Commercialisation Team, supporting the delivery of the University’s research and innovation ambitions. Fiona’s background is in Life Sciences, having previously worked both in a research capacity and for a large global pharmaceutical services provider -she specifically supports engagement in the School of Applied Sciences and wider, strategic opportunities.

Georgina Jamieson – Head of CPD and Consultancy
Georgina is responsible for the institutional strategic development and growth of continuous professional development (CPD) and consultancy. Through supporting and inspiring academics to transfer their excellent research into tangible outputs, she ensures that they benefit business and the wider society. Georgina also manages the generation of new business relationships and the ongoing fostering and cultivation of existing stakeholders for the University’s world leading Business School. Building on a career in management consultancy, Georgina has worked extensively in higher education across research, knowledge exchange, innovation and business engagement.

Maggie Dowe – Business Development & Relationship Manager
Maggie is responsible for supporting the growth of the university’s business engagement pipeline and external income. This includes developing external partnerships for research collaborations, CPD courses, consultancy projects and commercialisation opportunities. Maggie has 10 years experience in business and strategy development across the private, public and voluntary sectors. This includes a focus within the Health and Social Care sector in the last 5 years. She supports the School of Health and Social Care and the School of Arts and Creative Industries.

Matthew Burdge – Business Development & Relationship Manager
Matt is focussed on developing & growing the Universities external business engagement opportunities, from research partnerships, innovation vouchers and KTPs through to external CPD & consultancy. Matt has over 9 years’ experience in business development in the IT training and apprenticeship market focussed on developing strong business to business relationships, maximising opportunities and stakeholder management. He is working specifically with the School of Computing to develop external partnerships and relationships.

Patrick McCarthy – Business Development & Relationship Manager
Patrick has 22-years-experience in working at the academic-commercial interface in areas such as medicine, animal health and welfare and in energy. In the latter field, he led the successful Heriot-Watt Energy Academy from 2014-2018. He’s helped raise over £10 million in grants and investments for research and development and has been involved in the spin-out and spin in of 4 companies. Before joining Napier he worked in the College sector ‘selling’ training and CPD. Patrick is associated with the School of Engineering and the Built Environment where he hopes to broker strong relationships with external agencies that utilise and develop the expertise within the School.
