Records management: training and co-ordination
Records Management Training
To assist staff in reviewing their records management practices Governance Services run records management training sessions which give members of staff an overview of records management best practice and how to manage records efficiently and effectively.
Governance Services presently offer 2 specific Records Management courses:
(1) Records Management for Staff
The aim of the course is to enable you to:
- describe what a record is in plain English
- list the reasons for keeping records
- explain the importance of keeping accurate records
- summarise the legal and regulatory framework that underlies Edinburgh Napier's Records Management policy
- identify the consequences of not keeping accurate records and the risks this poses to Edinburgh Napier
- describe how to organise and file records accurately
(2) Records Management for Managers
The aims of this course are broadly similar to those listed above. However, the course also explains the role of a manager in the records management process.
Bespoke training events for Departments
Governance Services also offer bespoke training courses designed to meet the needs to departments. If you feel that your department would benefit from such a course, please contact the Governance Adviser (Records Management).
More details about the above courses and training events are available from the Learning and Development intranet pages or by logging onto HR Connect (Learning).
Information Governance Champions
To assist records management activities, each department should have as least one nominated member of staff to act as a Information Governance Champion. The Champion acts as the key contact for any records management projects and provides requisite information and updates for their work area to the Governance Adviser (Records Management) in respect of records management activities being undertaken.
Workshops
Training materials from Records Management training workshops are available for staff on the Information Governance site on Moodle.
Staff can book onto a training session on the Learning Events section of the intranet.
Information Governance Briefings
Governance Services run a combined Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Records Management briefing session 3 times per year for staff members. Further information can be found on the Data Protection pages and the latest briefing description is provided below:
