Course structures and requirements
Restrictions on programmes
There are
certain programmes which the university cannot offer to students who need a
Tier 4 visa. This is due to requirements and restrictions set by UK Visas and
Immigration (UKVI). These regulations also mean that there are certain
programmes for which applicants may not be able to obtain a visa.
These include
programmes where:
the mode of
attendance is part time or distance learning
the placement
element constitutes more than 50% of the total programme duration
the structure makes
it impossible for the University to fulfil its sponsor duties such as
monitoring and reporting students
New programmes or changes to existing programmes
If you are
making any changes to programmes you must check them with the Head of Visa and
International Support who will be able to advise regarding the Tier 4
requirements. Any changes to placements, which make it difficult for the
University to meet its monitoring requirements, need to be considered, as
changes could mean that the University is not able to sponsor Tier 4 students
on a particular programme.
If a student changes their studies
It is very
important that students receive appropriate advice before they make any changes
to their studies. Changing their course could impact on their visa and future
studies.
Please refer
students to the Visa and International Support Team and our advice on changing their studies.
Visas for visiting or exchange students and
visiting scholars
Most visiting
students or scholars will be able to obtain a Short-term study visa if they are
coming to Edinburgh Napier University for six months or less. Those who are
coming here for longer periods or in certain other specific circumstances will
need to obtain a Tier 4 visa.
