​Craiglockhart Travel Options

Interest free loans are available for staff to buy annual rail and annual First Bus passes.  Lothian Buses monthly direct debit is the cheapest option for their services.  Contact Jamie Pearson for more information.

Cycling and Walking


The City of Edinburgh Council have created cycling and walking maps covering the entire city.  Craiglockhart is covered by the South map.  SPOKES also produce excellent maps highlighting all off road routes, and a great deal more information throughout Edinburgh.  The University has a number of maps to give away to staff and students.  Contact Jamie Pearson if you would like one.  The CycleStreets website can also help you plan your journey by bicycle or foot, with an option to find quieter routes.


There are 81 bicycle spaces at Craiglockhart.  42 covered and 39 uncovered.  Shower and locker facilities for all cyclists, joggers and walkers are available at the [EN]GAGE fitness suite and in rooms 0/39(female) and 0/41(male).  Ask at reception if you can't find any of the rooms.  There is CCTV throughout the site.


Bus, Tram and Train


Use the Traveline Scotland website to help you plan your journey.  Use the My Bus Tracker service (search for EH14 1DJ) to view the next Lothian Buses services around the campus.  Craiglockhart is 2.0 miles from the closest Edinburgh Trams stop at Balgreen, integrated bus and tram options are available throughout the city (use the Traveline Scotland website).   Smart phone applications are also available, search for 'Edinburgh Travel' or 'Transport for Edinburgh' through your app store provider.  Please note that Lothian Buses, except for the Lothian Buses 100 service do not provide change.  All travel, except for Lothian Buses 100 200 and 300, charged at £1.70 for a single, £4.00 for a day ticket.  Monthly direct debit options are available.


Slateford Train Station is 0.8 miles from the campus.  Haymarket Train Station is 2.5 and Waverley Train Station is 3.5 miles.  The Lothian Buses 4 service links all three stations directly to our Craiglockhart campus.  Other services, such as the Lothian Buses 10 and Lothian Buses 23 service are also available from Waverley Train Station.  For journey times and more information on integrated travel visit the Traveline Scotland website.


Enterprise Car Club and Private Vehicles


The University is a member of Enterprise Car Club.  The Club has a number of vehicles within the city.  Charged per hour and per mile, use of Enterprise Car Club vehicle is perfect for short-term use.  For a discount membership code (for both business and personal use), contact Jamie Pearson, Environmental Sustainability Manager.


You must have a permit to park your car at any Edinburgh Napier campus.  All information relating to parking permits, including cost and exemptions can be found within the Parking Policy on the Security Team intranet pages.  Visitors must be pre-booked.  Visit the Traffic Scotland website or follow @edintravel on Twitter for information on road works and congestion.

Staff, students and visitors are kindly encouraged to consider and respect our neighbours around all Edinburgh Napier accommodation sites, campuses and offices and park sensibly and safely.




There are no public transport services directly joining Edinburgh Airport to Craiglockhart.  But, integrated options are available.  For instance, the Lothian Buses 4 service connects to the Lothian Buses 300 service which stops at Edinburgh Airport.  Visit the Traveline Scotland website to plan your journey.
