Open Access Week 2017
Information Services joined forces with the Research and Innovation Office to work together on a
series of events to celerate international
Open Access Week 2017. This week was from Monday 23rd October till Sunday 29th October.
We organised foyer roadshows on all campuses which were followed by Ask the Expert drop-in sessions. At the foyer roadshows we focused on reminding academics of the importance of depositing their work in
Worktribe as soon as it has been accepted for publication and encouraged them to sign up for an
ORCID iD, a unique personal identifying number they keep throughout their career. To add a bit of fun to the serious messages, we asked academics to tell us their thoughts on open access and asked if we could tweet their photo.
It is essential that academics deposit their work in Worktribe as soon as it's accepted for publication. When they do this, the article will be eligible for inclusion in
REF 2021. Increasing the submissions to REF 2021 is one of the key goals of
Strategy 2020.
Directly after the foyer roadshows, there were Ask the Expert drop-in sessions. Therse were aimed at research-active staff and PhD students who could come along and get more in-depth answers to their questions from a group of Information Services and RIO experts.
As a result of our joint activities celebrating Open Access Week, the repository team was contacted about adding published works to Worktribe, something which could result in an increase in submissions to REF 2021.
