Senior Managers who joined the University before 1 June 2018 have a fixed leave entitlement of fourteen fixed leave days per year. These employees can opt to convert four of these fixed days to personal entitlement to have the standard fixed leave entitlement of ten days (two at Easter and eight over Christmas).
The table below shows full time annual leave entitlement comprising personal holiday and fixed leave entitlement for all employee groups. Employees who work part-time receive a pro-rated personal and fixed leave entitlement.

If you start work with the University after the start of the leave year your entitlement for that year will be calculated on a pro-rata basis. You do not have to work for any specified period of time before taking annual leave, but if you leave the University and have taken more than your entitlement for the period you worked, this will be deducted from your final salary.
You are encouraged to take your annual leave entitlement within the leave year period to ensure you have a sufficient period of rest and must, as a minimum take your statutory leave each year. A maximum of five days (pro-rated for employees who work part time) can be carried forward into the following leave year and can be taken at any point during that leave year.
To view your leave entitlement for the current leave year, please log-into HR Connect. If you have any queries, please contact the HR Team on x3344.
Extended Winter Closure Period 2024
As a thank you to colleagues for their sustained effort and commitment, it has been confirmed that there will be an extension to this year’s winter break. For this year only, the University will close earlier than planned on Friday 20 December at 5pm to allow colleagues some additional time off. Following the winter break, all campuses will reopen on Friday 3 January 2025.
FAQ’s on the practicalities of managing this on HR Connect and arrangements for part-time colleagues are available here.
Requesting Annual Leave
You should use HR Connect to request annual leave which must be agreed and authorised by your line manager in advance of taking it. Annual leave will not be unreasonably withheld, however, it may not always be possible to grant leave when you want it. You are advised not to make holiday arrangements until requested time off has been authorised.
