Showcasing Leading Edge Research: Our Annual Research Conference

The Annual Research Conference took place on 15th and 16th May and we were delighted by the levels of attendance and participation throughout the conference. This year saw the introduction of a few new initiatives such as a Twitter hash tag, enhanced focus on discussions around research, and a real-time mock viva.  We were also excited to welcome 2 dynamic guest speakers:  Dr Allan Fyall (Bournemouth University and Visiting Professor) who presented on ‘The Learning Destination: A Collective Response to the Future Development of Destinations’; and Dr Farida Vis (University of Leicester) who presented on ‘Researching Social Media’.

The real time mock viva provided a more detailed insight into the viva voce process from both student and examiner perspectives. You can view the mock viva. We hope to use this as a tool to help students in the future.

It was also great to see staff and students showcase their research through presentations and posters. The discussions around research proved fruitful and added to the development of links between research projects and ideas across The Business School.

Congratulations are also offered again to all our Research Excellence Prize winners who were presented with their awards by our sponsor HSBC, The Dean and The Director of Research.
