The University's Women's Network is open to colleagues of all gender identities. It provides an engaging forum primarily for the discussion of issues affecting women and gender equality at Edinburgh Napier and beyond.
The Women’s Network has been very quiet of late, but is about to come out of hibernation with new joint-chairs and a refreshed agenda. The grand relaunch has been timed to coincide with International Women’s Day 2021 on 8 March and its theme of #ChooseToChallenge.
The network is open to any member of staff, irrespective of gender identity and we welcome all who wish to support the network’s goals. Our aim is to provide an engaging forum primarily for the discussion of issues affecting women and gender equality at Edinburgh Napier.
As the network supports individuals from very varied backgrounds, with different needs and aspirations, initial activity will focus on finding out more about what you feel the network should offer. Early feedback highlights the range of ideas and requests for future activities: from talking about menopause to early years childcare, from mentoring to outdoor group exercise, from guest speakers to informal peer support, and a lot more besides.
We hope you will join us as part of the women‘s network and #ChooseToChallenge gender inequality, bias and question stereotypes in the workplace and beyond.
About our Joint-Chairs
Claire joined the Edinburgh Napier University as Director of Information Services in July 2019.
A graduate of Dundee University, Claire has worked as an IT professional in a variety of sectors including retail, banking and justice. Her most recent role was Digital Services Director at Scottish Courts and Tribunal Service.
She is a TOGAF certified Enterprise Architect.
Sonya is an Associate Professor in the School of Health and Social Care, joining the University in 2016 after working in the NHS within midwifery and neonatal services.
Her career interests span women and children’s health and wellbeing focussing on substance use in pregnancy and currently promoting neonatal education in low- and middle-income countries.
